“Life is, in fact, a battle. Evil is insolent and strong; beauty enchanting, but rare; goodness very apt to be weak; folly very apt to be
defiant; wickedness to carry the day; imbeciles to be in great places, people of sense in small, and mankind generally unhappy. But the world as it stands is no narrow illusion, no phantasm, no evil dream of the night; we wake up to it, forever and ever; and we can neither forget it nor deny it nor dispense with it” ( Henry James, Theory of Fiction: Henry James).

Estevan and Esperanza have the worst life possible. They were tortured and their child was taken away from them. The coupke was forced to leave their home in Guatemala and then their entire country because they were Indians. That's just sad from my point of view. How can you force someone to leave their own home; that they were comfortable in, and let alone leave their child? They struggled everyday to fight for their rights until they got tired and just fleed the country.

Some how they overcomed their past, but still struggles with the lost of their child and home. They look at Turtle as if she is their child. So in order to help Taylor and Turtle; Estevan and Esperanza decided to adopt Turtle so that she can be with Taylor. That's the most nicest thing they can do. Even though Turtle reminds them of Ismene they are still willing to give Turtle up to help their friend. Estevan and Esperanza are good people. They have strength and courage. They showed everyone that they can get through anything. The couple went through alot of change.

“They key of persistence opens all door closed by resistence ” (John Di Lemme).
